Factory Girl

In Jr. high I read a biography about Edie Sedgwick who became America’s “It Girl” in 1965, after partnering up with Andy Warhol. She was Andy Warhol’s muse for the year and was featured in many of his films durning this time before parting ways with him to start her own career. She became famous for her unique style which included bold, black eye makeup, bodysuits, fishnets, mini skirts and her short hair. Edie’s story is tragic one. She struggled with mental health issues and addiction over the years. She eventually lost her battle with addiction and died of an overdose in 1971. She was only 28 years old. Her story has inspired numerous songs and movies over the years.

Teenage me became absolutely obsessed with her. There is this classic portrait of Edie where she is wearing a leopard coat and I just knew I had to recreate something similar one day. You see, I too enjoy a leopard fur coat and just so happen to have one. Luckily Cass is always up for photoshoot fun and was the perfect muse.

I wanted to emulate the portraits Warlhol used to take so we kept it simple and played with tones and grain to help emulate that old school polaroid look. I love, love, love how these turned out. We shot these at the Millwork Studio in Edmonton, Alberta. My absolute favourite place shoot!

Cass and I shot a few other sets this day as well. Stay tuned to see how those turned out! And, as always, if you want to book your own shoot hit the button below to get started!
