Fun Family Photography - Edmonton, Alberta

Listen, I have been photographing families for awhile now and I am going to let you in on a little secret on how to get the best photos…

Let the kids be kids.

It really is as simple as that. When you introduce play into a session it takes the pressure off and gives everyone the chance to loosen up and let their personalities out, parents included. This is how you get the real smiles, real laughter, real connection and make a whole lot of memories.

The family session featured here is a perfect example of that. I met this lovely little family at one of my favourite areas on Whyte Ave here in Edmonton, Alberta. Our first stop was slurpees because it’s been freaking hot here.

We wandered over to an alley, slurpees in hand, hung out, chatted and caught some giggles in between. Why an alley you ask. I’m the photographer that likes texture, spaces with character, and pockets of light.

Obviously, we had to feature the tie dye shirts they made together and the custom converse shoes. The perks of mom being an avid crafter a dad being a local tattoo artist here in Edmonton.

In between the fun, I capture the slower moments like the image above.

Added in some tickle fights and other shenanigans.

I always like to give the parents a moment to connect without the kids so that I can sneak in some cute photos of just them.

We wrapped up our adventure with some epic ninja kicks next to one of the many brightly painted walls on Whyte Ave . This family session was so much fun! If you are in the Edmonton area and are looking for a family photography session like the one above, let’s chat!
